Friday morning was nicely cloudy which enabled us to begin day 1 in the
normally too-hot-to-climb in mid-day Solarium area. Mike & John went
straight for the "Arch", while I set up a top rope upstream on
Broken Arrow(5.8).
We looked at the swim and we jumped right in, not to mention fishing poles.
Oh, the water, oh, the water, oh, the water, let it run all over me....
After a relaxed swim, I joined in the monkey fun around the "Arch"
area: Swampy Monkey(5.8), Sea Monkeys(5.10-), Drunkey Monkey(5.10), &
Monkeys on Juice(5.10).
I got to set up the only remaining climb, Drunkey Monkey, which, although
it required some long webbing to prevent rope scraping, was my favorite
climb of this area. I climbed up Swampy Monkey just to the left to take
these pictures.
As we moved to the Solarium around mid-afternoon (still cloudy
), I snapped a final shot of Louie & Marissa on the Monkey Routes. After
Mike got to lead The Prism(5.10-) ,
he let me lead Sun baked(5.11-) .
Both these routes were very sweet and had stars by their names on the map
because they were so stellar. After we also set up Half-Baked(5.10) in the
middle, we continued to lead, top-rope, and play on everything in the area.
At one point, Mike and I set up and played on Sunburst(5.11-) which also
proved to be a wonderful route. At some point, Mike went fishing. He wasn't
gone long, but he caught two very nice and large catfish.
I can't name the red flowers on the top of these thorny things, but they
were everywhere.
